At this time, music therapy cannot be billed to insurance in Virginia. Music therapy services can be paid through the use of Health Savings Accounts, Health Reimbursement Account, and Flexible Spending Accounts. In addition, many clients receive scholarships, grants, or other funding through Individual and Family Support Programs (IFSP), Exceptional Family Member Programs (EFMP), or other community service organizations.
We are pleased to offer session packages and discounts for clients who pay for sessions in advance. Please contact us to learn more about pricing and discounts.
When music therapy is provided as a direct related service on the IEP (Individualized Education Program), it is deemed necessary for the child to benefit from their education program. The need for a related service is determined by an evaluation conducted by a Board Certified Music Therapist, and is then considered by the Interdisciplinary Team at the local school for addition to the student’s IEP.
Every year, we host fundraising events to raise money for the Tidewater Music Therapy Scholarship Fund - we also devote merchandise proceeds to the fund.. This fund is distributed on an annual basis to client families who apply and are selected for a scholarship. The amount that we allocate to each family depends on the funds we are able to raise each year. The goal of this fund is to help ease the financial burden of paying for music therapy services and to make music therapy more accessible in the Hampton Roads Community.
